The health benefits^1,2,3,4,5 of tart cherries are well known today* but when Michelle started she was a pioneer. While working at a tart cherry company, she observed seniors looking for tart cherry juice to help relieve their gout, arthritis and joint pain*. As she researched she found that it wasn't an "old wives tale" as her employer claimed, but rather there is considerable scientific evidence to support the anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant benefits of tart cherries. As a company Michelle's Miracle® is growing this body of evidence through conducting clinical trials.

At that time, tart cherry farmers were throwing cherries on the ground due to oversupply and changing consumer demographics (concern with obesity and health is reducing the traditional markets for tart cherries). There was fear that developers would clear the farms in order to build condos on more of the tart cherry capital of North America unless new markets could be found for tart cherries.

Michelle's Miracle® was founded as the Leland Cherry Company in 2001 by Michelle White. By 2008 Michelle realized that the business needed to change in order to handle the tremendous growth. In September of 2008 Michelle’s Miracle® was reincorporated into a Delaware Corporation and Leland Cherry Company was merged into the new company. Michelle began seeking early stage investors and was able to attract Phenomenelle Angels Fund as the lead investor, with Fisher Properties reinvesting and new investors including the MI PreSeed Fund and our key supplier, Cherry Growers, Inc. filling out the round.

The company is headquarteredin the Heart of Cherry Country in Leland, MI, with additional offices in Traverse City, MI.

Since starting her company, Michelle has become increasingly concerned about the importance of preserving the cherry farmland of northern Michigan. In July 2005, the company began to donate a portion of every product sale to the Leelanau Conservancy (theconservancy.com). Founded in 1988, the Conservancy has protected more than 4,000 acres of precious land and 8.5 miles of shoreline to date, among its many other accomplishments.
